Some Information With X2 And XENPAK For Sales At Fiberstore

In fiber optic communication, 10 gigabit Ethernet (10GE or 10GbE or 10 GigE) refers to various technologies for transmitting Ethernet frames at a rate of 10 gigabits per second (10*109 or 10 billion bits per second), first defined by the IEEE 802.3ae-2002 standard.

10GbE supports both copper and fiber cabling. However, due to its higher bandwidth requirements, higher-grade copper cables are required: category 6a or Class F/Category 7 cables for links up to 100m. Unlike previous Ethernet standards, 10 gigabit Ethernet defines only full duplex point-to-point links which are generally connected by network switches. Half duplex operation and hubs do not exist in 10GbE.

The 10 gigabit Ethernet standard encompasses a number of different physical layer (PHY) standards. A networking device may support different PHY types through pluggable PHY modules, such as those based on SFP . The WAN PHY can support maximum link distances up to 80 km depending on the fiber standard employed.

Fiberstore supply some 10G Transceivers types like SFP Plus,XFP,X2,XENPAK and so on.Now , I will introducts two types of 10G Transceivers,they are 10GBase-lr x2 (X2 Transceiver)and 10GBase-zr XENPAK(XENPAK Transceiver).

Fiberstore 10GBase-lr x2 use dual SC optical interface, It is a hot-swappable input/output device plugs into an Ethernet X2 port of a Cisco switch or router to link the port with the network. The X2-10GB-LR is a highly integrated,Serial optical transponder module for high-speed, 10Gbit/s data transmission applications. 4*3.125Gbps Ethernet Signal Input by XAUI Interface. An integrated Coder / Decoder and multiplexer / demultiplexer (SERDES: Serializer / Deserializer). X2-10GB-LR is designed for 10km Transmission with a vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL). This X2 10gb transceiver Digital diagnostics functions are available via a 2-wire serial interface.

Fiberstore industry-standard 10GBase-zr XENPAK is a hot-swappable input/output device that plugs into a Gigabit Ethernet slot, linking the port with the fiber-optic network. Maximize the efficiency of your network with Cisco compatible GBIC and GLC optic module upgrades.Supports link lengths of up to about 80 km on SMF. This interface is not part of the 10 Gigabyte Ethernet standard but is built according to Cisco optical specifications.Fiberstore Now stocks a complete line of both Cisco original and 3rd party Cisco compatible optic modules. In our continuous efforts to deliver the highest level of customer service, the Cisco XENPAK-10GB-ZR can be shipped from stock very fast.

From the wikipedia I know that XENPAK was the first MSA for 10GE and had the largest form factor. X2 and XPAK were later competing standards with smaller form factors. X2 and XPAK have not been as successful in the market as XENPAK. XFP came after X2 and XPAK and it is also smaller. From this article,do you find some information you need ?
